JVC 4K Camera for "Under $2,000" on Display at CES 2014 | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

4K is the big buzz phrase this year.

Camera-wise though, the selection is still a bit slim.

Sony showed off its new FDR-AX100 and Panasonic featured a prototype 4K Lumix camera.

Additionally, JVC had its 4K version of the PX100 on display as a reference exhibit at CES 2014.

The camera was tethered to a 4K display and streaming 4K footage from its HDMI port.

New Sony 4K Handycam FDR-AX100

New Sony 4K Handycam FDR-AX100 | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

I wasn’t expecting much from a $2K 4K Handycam but after watching this hyper sharp and detailed sample on YouTube I was kind of blown away by the FDR-AX100.

I have said before that if they wanted to sell UltraHD TV’s to the masses content would have to be created by the consumers since delivery is still an issue.

This is a little proof of that.

Nevertheless it’s very impressive and it’s even compressed for YouTube.

This camera is going to be tough to get when it’s available in March with an image and price this good.

We are moving fast into 4K.

Buckle up people!

As the price of 4K televisions drop and related devices expand, the demand for consumer-level Ultra HD camcorders is increasing, with such functionality even making its way onto a few smartphones.

Today Sony has introduced, in addition to its latest Action Cam model, the FDR-AX100, it's first compact 4K Handycam camcorder.

Expect the Ax100 to hit shelves in March.  MSRP: $1,999.00

Panasonic's 4K Wearable Action Cam Offers a Unique Form and Heavy Compression

Panasonic's 4K Wearable Action Cam Offers a Unique Form and Heavy Compression | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

It features two components.

A cylindrical camera unit attaches to an earpiece, allowing the user to wear the camera near their face.

The camera unit is then tethered to a larger base unit, which presumably houses the processing power of the 4K camera.

Imagine how big that would be if Panasonic tried to stuff everything into a single unit.

That makes it even more impressive to think about what GoPro has done with its compact form factor, which has been around for years now.

Get set: 4K UHD is coming fast to a TV set near you | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

John McGrath of Rethink Studios, who’s always been giant steps ahead of the digital curve, has seen the future and it’s Ultra High Definition, aka 4K technology.

“It’s coming and it’s coming fast,” he predicts.

At 3840 x 2160, 4K Ultra HD is four times the total number of pixels on a full 1080p HD screen.

“All the technology is here, so we’re just waiting for affordable 4K TVs for the home and the cable boxes to deliver the content,” says 4K proponent McGrath.

“It’s going to be what 3D never achieved".

Panasonic Shows Prototype High-Speed SDXC Card for Use with 4K Lumix Camera | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

In a recent post about the Panasonic 4K Lumix camera, I noted that the camera had a SDXC card slot, which suggested highly compressed 4K footage.

However, today I found out that Panasonic is planning to use a new SDXC standard with the 4K camera that will allow higher bit-rate capture of 4K footage.
