Blackmagic's New URSA is a Serious 4K Production Camera

Blackmagic's New URSA is a Serious 4K Production Camera | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

The Blackmagic URSA was designed to be the beastly cinema camera that everyone wanted the 2.5K and 4K Blackmagic cameras to be.

After rigging them out for higher end productions, the other BMCC cameras became larger than the URSA.

As a result, Blackmagic took the key wishlist items and packaged them into a full size production camera with little compromise.

Notably, the body and components are built to be upgraded.

While the URSA is currently configured with a 4K sensor capable of delivering 60fps, the rest of the camera can handle up to an 8K sensor at 30fps.

CopperHead 4K Camera Transceiver

CopperHead 4K Camera Transceiver | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

Miranda Technologies’ new Telecast CopperHead 3404K camera-mountable fibre transceiver is designed to simplify the installation of Ultra HD infrastructure.

The transceiver requires just two strands of fibre optic cable to carry all bi-directional signals, including four 3Gbps HD-SDI paths, from camera locations to truck or control room or around a remote production site.

The dual-strand bi-directional system enables 4K cameras to be easily multi-purposed for ENG, digital cinematography and studio applications without the constraints imposed by copper connections.

Panasonic jumps on 4K train with drool-worthy GH prototype

Panasonic jumps on 4K train with drool-worthy GH prototype | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

If 2013 was the year of the 'affordable' full-frame camera, 2014 is shaping up to be the year of 4K.

We've seen dirt cheap 4K monitors from Asus, Seiki, Dell and Philips, but haven't heard many new announcements from camera manufacturers... yet.

Panasonic is jumping onto the 4K train with a new prototype based on their excellent GH series.

Details are still scarce, but the spec that has us all drooling is the price: just south of $2,000.

If Panasonic manages to come in that low, they'll have the attention of the HD-DSLR world.

Engadget is also reporting further details: Video can be ouput via mini-HDMI in an uncompressed feed, while UHD can be recorded at a rate of 200 Mbps.

Another feature that grabbed our attention?

The camera will be able to snap photos while shooting 4K video.

New Sony 4K Handycam FDR-AX100

New Sony 4K Handycam FDR-AX100 | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

I wasn’t expecting much from a $2K 4K Handycam but after watching this hyper sharp and detailed sample on YouTube I was kind of blown away by the FDR-AX100.

I have said before that if they wanted to sell UltraHD TV’s to the masses content would have to be created by the consumers since delivery is still an issue.

This is a little proof of that.

Nevertheless it’s very impressive and it’s even compressed for YouTube.

This camera is going to be tough to get when it’s available in March with an image and price this good.

We are moving fast into 4K.

Buckle up people!

Additionally, JVC had its 4K version of the PX100 on display as a reference exhibit at CES 2014.

Panasonic Shows Prototype High-Speed SDXC Card for Use with 4K Lumix Camera | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

In a recent post about the Panasonic 4K Lumix camera, I noted that the camera had a SDXC card slot, which suggested highly compressed 4K footage.

However, today I found out that Panasonic is planning to use a new SDXC standard with the 4K camera that will allow higher bit-rate capture of 4K footage.
