Blackmagic's New URSA is a Serious 4K Production Camera

Blackmagic's New URSA is a Serious 4K Production Camera | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

The Blackmagic URSA was designed to be the beastly cinema camera that everyone wanted the 2.5K and 4K Blackmagic cameras to be.

After rigging them out for higher end productions, the other BMCC cameras became larger than the URSA.

As a result, Blackmagic took the key wishlist items and packaged them into a full size production camera with little compromise.

Notably, the body and components are built to be upgraded.

While the URSA is currently configured with a 4K sensor capable of delivering 60fps, the rest of the camera can handle up to an 8K sensor at 30fps.

World's Smallest 8K Camera Moving Forward

World's Smallest 8K Camera Moving Forward | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

Astro Design's 8K camera is moving forward as Japan looks to broadcast in UHD 8K by 202.

Based on a design similar to the Sony F5 and F55, the camera is essentially a head, or brain, that records directly to an external recorder via an optical output with XLR connectors for audio.

The chip is huge, too, at 2.5 inches.

The recorders are being developed in tandem and compresses at 1 over 6 to be recorded.

It can record at 60p with plans for frame rates up to 120 fps.

Currently, there’s only a prototype, but Astro Design is expecting the 8K camera to run about $300,000.
