Editing Large at 4k for $500 - A Seiki 39" 4k

Editing Large at 4k for $500 - A Seiki 39" 4k | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

For $500 it's not going to be the only monitor you ever buy again, but a 39" 4k panel absolutely has to be seen and used to be believed.

It's really crazy that we've seen barely any improvement in panel resolution over the last ten years, and it's very cool that 4k is becoming a new standard - maybe even higher is on the way.

Clearly the current entry-level 4k panels aren't the best around, but it's my personal opinion that the value of 3840x2160 pixels in a continuous usable expanse for an affordable price is high enough to outweigh the slight penalties in color quality.

The first day I thought I'd end up bringing it into work instead and using it only as a productivity monitor, but now that I've spent enough time with it and accepted that I'll have to keep a 39" and a 27" monitor on my desk, I'm absolutely stoked.

I'm keeping it, and man is it fun to work on.

Adobe is teasing some of its new Premiere Pro features just ahead of NAB 2013.

Over the past couple of years, Adobe has been doing a decent job of listening to customer feedback in adding features to Premiere Pro.

In many instances, these added features were simply standard features picked up from Final Cut Pro 7 – things that those switching to Premiere Pro instantly missed.

4K production is becoming the norm.

It was incredible to note how many Sundance films were shot on 4K, and with more cinemas projecting 4K and the onslaught of consumer 4K TV sets, this will only get bigger.

That, coupled with other blossoming technologies like HDR and HFR, offers creative people a richer palette than ever before.

One may see Ultra High Definition as the future of entertainment or not, but the fact of the matter is that the new 4K standard is beginning to really take off.

While there may not be a lot of content available in 4K yet, the extra resolution certainly makes a lot of sense for people working in creative jobs such as photography, videography/cinematography, architecture and design.

At CES 2014 in Las Vegas, Philips has presented a new 28" monitor that sports 4K resolution and is surprisinglyaffordable.

Estimated retail price: US$1,199

Apple Final Cut Pro X Gets Better Project Management & More 4K Support in Major 10.1 Update | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

A new Mac Pro wasn’t the only thing coming out of Apple recently.

They also introduced a major new update for their NLE, Final Cut Pro X.

This 10.1 update adds a number of features, including more 4K software and hardware support, optimized dual-GPU performance, native support for more camera files, and the ability to upload 4K videos directly to YouTube.

Perhaps the biggest addition, however, is a change in the way FCPX organizes projects, which should make for much better project and media management.
