6 Cameras to Ease Your Way Into Shooting 4K Video

6 Cameras to Ease Your Way Into Shooting 4K Video | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

To record in 4K or not to record in 4K, that is the (admittedly awkward) question many photographers and videographers are grappling with. As momentum continues to build behind the new format, you might find yourself grappling with it, too.

If you’re considering the jump to 4K, we’ve selected six video cameras that deliver it in a package that’s affordable, preserves your ability to shoot in HD and is relatively easy to use if you know your way around an HD digital SLR. Workflows for 4K are still maturing, so some solutions require proprietary memory formats and/or software for post-processing, but hey, no pain, no gain, right?

First Ultra HD player for the home goes on sale

First Ultra HD player for the home goes on sale | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

The company behind the Ultra HD/4K cameras responsible for the likes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Spider-Man and House of Cards has launched the world's first Ultra HD capable machine for the home – and there's not a disc drive in sight.

Promising a BBC iPlayer-on-iPad style download service, the Redray 4k Cinema Player goes on sale this month for around £950 to become the first commercially available Ultra HD source.

It could effectively see the end of both Blu-ray and even the whole idea of the shiny disc itself.

Since you can't even play 4K video on any PC, most of us would not automatically come up with an idea to edit 12-megapixel resolution video on a Macbook Air.

However, a demo published by Dave Helmly, in charge of tech sales of Adobe's pro audio and video products, shows that it is possible using a flagship Macbook Air with an Intel 1.8 GHz i7-2677M processor and a Thunderbolt-connected Red Rocket accelerator and transcoder card ($4,750).
