"Usable" Workspace Resolution at 4K UHD | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

With all the talk at CES being about 4k and a number of new options having come out in the last month and about to hit the table, I wanted to follow up with a discussion about how physical monitor size really matters if you want to use that additional resolution to increase your workspace resolution.

...

Personally I think 50" is the sweet spot but you gotta have a huge desk for that.

Review: Seiki's 39-inch 4K TV as a display for a 2013 MacBook Pro with Intel Iris

Review: Seiki's 39-inch 4K TV as a display for a 2013 MacBook Pro with Intel Iris | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

On Black Friday week, Amazon ($449) and Sears ($499) went into a price war on the 39-inch "120Hz" Seiki 4K displays culminating in a Sub-$400 price (that I jumped on) for the 39-inch variant.

Will I be using this as my main display? No.

30Hz is a little hard on the eyes, and the MacBook Pro’s Iris graphics really isn’t up to the task of pushing 4K out of its HDMI 1.4 port.

However, as we look forward to the Mac Pro and its ability to throw 3 different 4K displays around at much higher framerates, this is a look into the near future.

Editing Large at 4k for $500 - A Seiki 39" 4k

Editing Large at 4k for $500 - A Seiki 39" 4k | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

For $500 it's not going to be the only monitor you ever buy again, but a 39" 4k panel absolutely has to be seen and used to be believed.

It's really crazy that we've seen barely any improvement in panel resolution over the last ten years, and it's very cool that 4k is becoming a new standard - maybe even higher is on the way.

Clearly the current entry-level 4k panels aren't the best around, but it's my personal opinion that the value of 3840x2160 pixels in a continuous usable expanse for an affordable price is high enough to outweigh the slight penalties in color quality.

The first day I thought I'd end up bringing it into work instead and using it only as a productivity monitor, but now that I've spent enough time with it and accepted that I'll have to keep a 39" and a 27" monitor on my desk, I'm absolutely stoked.

I'm keeping it, and man is it fun to work on.

I recently got one of the Seiki 50” 4K Ultra-HD displays (model SE50UY04) and in this post I’ll share some experiences I’ve had with it hooked up to my HP Z820 PC running Windows 8.1.

Seiki Releases UltraHD Flat Panel for $2000

Seiki Releases UltraHD Flat Panel for $2000 | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it

Starting March of this year, Chinese manufacturer Seiki will begin shipping their 50inch (SE50YU04) Ultra HD TV for $2000.

The 50inch flat panel sports a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, three HDMI inputs, one VGA Input, one component input, composite input as well as an analog/digital tuner.

I noticed a USB input, but this seems to only serve as a service port. There has been no talk of 3D and of upscalling HD TO 4K either.
